## Summary

The Instagram account for Wyld Chyld Tattoos was barely active. Roughly one artist posted there, and only their own work. The shop in Merrick, New York, has about 12 artists and three or four piercers today. Winter is their slow season, when fewer people come through the door. We ran paid ads on Instagram and Facebook through the slow months, from late in the third quarter through the end of the year. Facebook did not perform as well, so the ads ran mostly on Instagram. Each campaign featured one artist for about six weeks, with four versions of the ad, before the next artist took over. The ads led to the featured artist's portfolio page on the website. The site recognized visitors who came from an ad and showed them a pop up that invited them to book with that artist and said openings were going fast. In the second year, one campaign drew 50,000 views in about six weeks. Together, the ads and the new way of posting took the shop's Instagram to a peak of about 750,000 impressions in the third and fourth years. Impressions count how many times the posts and ads appeared on someone's screen. New clients now find them through social media and the feed every artist posts to.

## Before

The Instagram account for Wyld Chyld Tattoos was barely active. Roughly one artist posted there, and only their own work. The shop in Merrick, New York, has about 12 artists and three or four piercers today. Winter is their slow season, when fewer people come through the door.

## The hidden cost
Someone scrolling the shop's Instagram saw only a small part of what the artists could do. In winter, the shop needed more clients than walk ins brought in.

## What we did

We ran paid ads on Instagram and Facebook through the slow months, from late in the third quarter through the end of the year. Facebook did not perform as well, so the ads ran mostly on Instagram. Each campaign featured one artist for about six weeks, with four versions of the ad, before the next artist took over. The ads led to the featured artist's portfolio page on the website. ## How they felt

## Outcome

Together, the ads and the new way of posting took the shop's Instagram to a peak of about 750,000 impressions in the third and fourth years. Impressions count how many times the posts and ads appeared on someone's screen. New clients now find them through social media and the feed every artist posts to.

## How we did it
The ads ran alongside a new way of posting. Every artist now contributes to the shop's Instagram, and the general manager approves each post. We recommended promoting the shop's events on social media to reach more people on Instagram. The shop holds events with Bikers Against Child Abuse and throws a festival that fills the parking lot. The festival has vendors, discounted tattoos and flash sheets of ready made designs based on children's drawings.
